#NYFW: Yeezy Season 5

Kanye West pleasantly surprised New York Fashion Week goers with a collection that was fairly different then previous ones. The calf-length boots paired with a skin-tight bodysuit and an oversized jacket aesthetic was the same, but the execution changed.

Compared to the neutral tones of beige and nude that became thematic, season 5 was a rainbow. Various shades of khaki and deep green created a camouflage pattern on t shirts that featured the Adidas logo, burgundy red gave richness to a thick knitted cardigan and a velvet hoody and aqua blue on another.

There was a wide variety of styling: with numerous different fabrics used including plenty of denim and wool, models showed barely any skin and every look said something different.

Whether you can appreciate Kanye West’s creativity or not, there is probably something for you in this collection.

#NYFW: Brandon Maxwell AW17

A collection of formal attire that exuberates confidence and charm. Brandon Maxwell’s AW17 show was presented by the most in demand models of current times including Joan Smalls and Imaan Hammam, which increased the attraction to the already desireable garments.

Designs were simplistic and minimal yet attracted attention: black and white were dominant colours whilst the use of ruby red and sapphire blue was also present on the gowns.

Maxi dresses had deep plunge detail and shorter ones were made with collars. Details weren’t in-your-face with dozens of embellishments but subtle and smart with the use of clean cuts in the right places, creating a feminine silhouette.

This collection by Brandon Maxwell is for the women who don’t want to command attention when they enter a room, but naturally hold qualities of strength and tenacity that are simply amplified through the gown.

#NYFW: Zac Posen AW17

Rather than walking down the runway, models such as Jourdan Dunn and Lindsey Wixon posed in editorial photos that were displayed as an art exhibition for Zac Posen’s AW17 collection.

The clothing was romantic with hues of rose red and black complimenting each other whilst appealing to the masses.

Bare shoulders, a tight waistline and an exaggerated skirt were key elements to the elegant silhouette Zac Posen is known for and were present themes in the collection.

Photographed against white shabby walls, the designs appeared twice as elegant in contrast. Posing softly, the models bought attention to the gowns simultaneously creating a strong image.

This collection was elegant in both its presentation and design, it is sure to be popular among red carpets goers.

#NYFW: Philipp Plein AW17

A harmony between street style culture and high fashion opulence. Philipp Plein knows how to counterbalance the two to create trends and desire for his clothing. The show’s cast also had the same effect, superstar models such as Imaan Hammam walked as well as internet sensation Jeremy Meeks, a.k.a. ‘prison bae’ making his runway debut. If these two factors don’t entice thousand of Instagram likes and potential buyers, nothing else would.

Street style motifs of tshirt dresses, thigh high boots and the designer’s logo made the garments appear as must-haves, especially with the luxury fashion elements such as crystal embellishments, fur and metallic tones of gold and silver.

As proved popular during New York Fashion Week this season, patriotism was evident in the clothing with the American flag, the iconic Statue of Liberty and ‘I love New York’ printed onto tshirts.

Tick off virtually every casual wear trend next season with Philipp Plein’s AW17 collection. It’s bound to make head turn whilst simultaneously making them nod in approval.

#NYFW: Tome AW17

The perfect balance of masculinity and feminity: bold tailoring and strong dressmaking. Tome’s AW17 womenswear collection combines two forces and brings them as one.

White is pure and black is mysterious, yet they harmonise on the runway like yin and yang.

Masculine themes of formal trousers and shirts are feminised with corset-structures and lines and cuts that emphasise the curves of the female body.

Formal attire was glamourised with the addition of fur and large earrings. Jackets became more casual thanks to multiple zip details, as well as trousers which had the bottoms rolled up above the ankle.

Masculine and feminine elements are proportioned equally in Tome’s AW17 designs. Symbolising something we’ve been seeing a lot of at New York Fashion Week, minus the slogan tshirts this time.

#NYFW: Victoria Beckham AW17

Many fashion designers create for a particular type of woman. Victoria Beckham creates for every type of woman. The colours, comfort and silhouette of her collections ensure anyone who wears her clothing will achieve a sophisticated and feminine look.

Often in the collection, was the appearance of all the colours used in one outfit. Red wine compliments navy which goes with black which matches with white which is compatible with grey. You get the picture.

The silhouette was always balanced out: baggy trousers are paired with tighter tops, thick knitted jumpers are worn with airy semi-sheer skirts and dresses that flare at the bottom are streamlined until that point. It is clear that a lot of thought is provided to styling with this important outfit rule.

This collection promotes ultimate wearability to a huge audience: any woman.

#NYFW: Jonathan Simkhai AW17

It’s very difficult to appear softly feminine yet create such a strong presence, but this is what Jonathan Simkhai designs for.

The collection was dreamy and romantic. A soft colour palette of white, black and cream was used alongside airy sheer fabrics and subtle ruffles. The silhouette was also delicate: formal two pieces exposed no skin apart from at the leg with a gentle streamline cut.

Exquisite details are the finishing touches to the clothing, whether it be tiny studs, floral patterns that frame the body or fragile feathers gathered at the bottom of a gown.

Jonathan Simkhai’s AW17 collection is tenderly feminine but will represent your strength.
